Woven Warmth

This past Sunday, I was teaching a Sunday School class.  We are studying the Holy Spirit and totally loving the topic as we learn who He is, what He does, and why He is important. Looking at Proverbs 8 we read who, what, and why of the Holy Spirit.  As we explored more on this topic, we focused on verses 22-31 talks of how the Holy Spirit was with Jesus when He spoke the world into being.  We looked at John 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word; and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”  Jesus, the Word, was there from the beginning of time.  It was He that spoke the world into existence.  But look at Proverbs 8:30.  The Holy Spirit was by Jesus’ side when Jesus spoke the mountains, hills, oceans, etc to be formed.  The Holy Spirit is Jesus’ constant companion.  He heard Jesus speak the word and added His power to the word to form the thing spoken.  The two are inseparable.

Verse 31 tells us that the Holy Spirit delights to be with humans.  It is His delight to be with us!  No wonder He stands in the byways and highways calling for us to come to him!  We also looked at Genesis 1:2 speaks of the Spirit moving over the waters of the earth.  Other translations use the word brooding like a bird over the nest.  Still others use the term hover.  That word “hover” can mean to remain floating, suspended, or fluttering in the air or to remain or linger in or near a place.  From the various translations, it is easy to see that the Holy Spirit was near the earth with great interest in it.  I thought of my children when they were younger.  They wanted to be with their mama at every instant.  Oh, how they hovered about me!  I nearly stepped on them many times because they were so close.  The Holy Spirit was like that when the earth began--He is still like that today!

His delight is to be with you.

The next time you feel unloved, unwanted, discouraged, depressed, ugly, unacceptable, etc., remember, the God of the Universe DELIGHTS to be with you.  The Holy Spirit HOVERS to be near you.  God loves you with an eternal love that never ends.  God has plans for you to prosper you and give you a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).  The CEO of the universe desires you.  He wants to hear your thoughts, laugh with your delights, comfort you when you cry.  He will never leave you and never ignore or abandon you (Hebrews 13:5).

Spend time with Him throughout the day.  Know His love and acceptance of you.  If you do, you will have a confidence in yourself and your relationship with Him and others.

Be encouraged!
